Nigel Key, MBChB, FRCP, the Harold R. Roberts Distinguished Professor in the division of hematology and director of the UNC Blood Research Center was featured in  American Society of Hematology Clinical News discussing recommendations for hospitalized patients with COVID-19.

“The published studies so far suggest that the more profound the COVID-19 infection, the more likely that thrombotic events will occur,” says Key in the article.  But “every patient who is infected with COVID-19 is likely somewhere on the [thrombosis] spectrum.”

Key and other experts recommend patients receive a “complete blood count and coagulation factor lab tests – as well as imaging if a clot is suspected.”
