Sarah Smithson, MD, MPH, has published “Screening Adults for Depression in Primary Care” in the July issue of Medical Clinics of North America.

Sara Smithson, MD, MPH is an assistant professor in the department of medicine’s division of general medicine and clinical epidemiology. She recently published “Screening Adults for Depression in Primary Care,” an evidence based article that recognizes the burden of depression in the US and the benefits of screening adults when combined with the right resources for managing the disease. The article was published in Medical Clinics of North America.
Dr. Smithson recognizes that treatment for depression should include psychotherapy, pharmacotherapy, or a combination of both. She promotes collaborative care models that are evidence-based approaches to depression treatment, and follow-up that can be feasibly initiated in the primary care setting.
