Hello all,

It has been a couple of months since we sent a UME update. We hope you all have been doing well. As you might know, we have come to the end of fellowship interviews (Match Day is December 1), while interviews for the Internal Medicine Residency have just started.

Our UNC medical students have also started interviewing, and they are doing well. As the holiday season approaches, we wanted to take a few minutes to thank folks for their contributions to undergraduate medical education.

Shout-Outs

  • Dr. Alyssa Tilly has worked tirelessly with all the career goal advisors (Drs. Christopher Klipstein, Marco Aleman, Raj Kasthuri, Ashley Henderson and Koyal Jain) to help support UNC medical students applying for internal medicine.
  • Drs. Klipstein and Berkowitz are part of the new foundation phase curriculum redesign workgroup (to be implemented in August 2023), and we are incredibly grateful for their hard work!
  • Drs. Deb Bynum, Monty Williams, Daniel Duddleston, Hillary Spangler, Mike Croglio, and Katie Allen, have created a special interview day for our UNC medical students.
  • A shoutout goes to Dr. Claire Larson and Dr. Paul Zimmerman for their fabulous geriatrics and palliative care electives in the individualization phase, respectively!
  • Our current medical student chiefs, Rebecca Varnell and Christine Hamilton, have helped create a phenomenal medical student run grand rounds. They have also helped us create a new UME webpage. Also, if you haven’t seen the new Department of Medicine website, we strongly encourage you to look at it—not only is it informative, it is quite aesthetic.
  • And check out the new UME webpage on the website: https://www.med.unc.edu/medicine/education/undergraduate-medical-education/
