About
Alex is from Ohio and attended Trinity University in San Antonio where she was an Academic All-American collegiate soccer player. She majored in Engineering Science and worked as an Engineer intern with Chevron in Houston with projects involving waterflood modeling and salt water disposal. She then went to Vanderbilt where she earned her PhD in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. Her research work focused on identifying pathways of saturated fatty acid metabolism involved in hepatic lipo-toxicity in vitro in order to better understand the transition of benign fatty liver disease (NAFLD) into non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). After completing her PhD, she worked as a senior consultant for Deloitte where she worked with several large academic medical centers across the Midwest to provide innovative strategies to improve operations and clinical care delivery before entering the University of Cincinnati for medical school. In her free time, she enjoys hiking with her dog Layla, running, biking, horseback riding and home renovation projects.
