David Cookmeyer, MD

About

David is originally from Raleigh, North Carolina and attended Haverford College where he majored in Chemistry. While at Haverford and after his undergraduate studies, he was exposed to the wonders of cancer immunotherapy while working in a CAR-T cell focused lab at the University of Pennsylvania and went on to complete medical school as part of the combined Harvard/MIT Health Sciences and Technology (HST) program. While in medical school, he was extremely fortunate to conduct research on immune checkpoints and their application in studying and treating malignancies with his prior mentors Arlene Sharpe, MD PhD and Kelly Burke, MD PhD. He plans to apply for fellowship in hematologic oncology after residency, with his primary clinical interests being solid tumor oncology, cancer immunotherapy, and medical education. He is thrilled to be returning to his home and family in the triangle for his clinical training and is extremely grateful to be part of the UNC Family!
