About

Hema graduated from UNC Chapel Hill with degrees in Biology and Spanish.  She then obtained an MPH through the East Carolina University and an MHS in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Hema worked at Hopkins as a research coordinator for rare genetic muscle disorder clinical trials before attending medical school at the Florida State University.  Through her studies and work, Hema found a passion for understanding and improving healthcare disparities and in caring for individuals with chronic and life-impacting diseases. In addition to multiple research and service activities both here and in India, Hema served as a peer advisor and an editor for the Humanism Evolving through Arts and Literature (HEAL) student journal.  In her spare time, she enjoys music, travel, being outdoors and spending time with her family.
