About

Jacob grew up in a military family and moved around the country many times throughout his childhood, though he has spent the most time in Virginia and Tennessee. He graduated from The University of Tennessee with a degree in Biochemistry, Cellular, and Molecular Biology and spent a year working in a Genetics lab testing food samples for microbial contamination before matriculating into The University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Medicine. There he excelled as a medical student, serving as a curriculum committee member for the College of Medicine, founding a pathology interest group, engaging in a student-led initiative to discuss racial biases both in society and within the context of healthcare, and helping moderate a Crisis Medicine elective series at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.  He was recognized for his achievements by induction into the AOA Honor Society and was awarded the Faculty Medal for Academic Achievement. In his free time, Jacob is known for hosting “pizza Fridays” and “pancake Saturdays” for his family and friends. He also enjoys exploring the outdoors with his wife, birdwatching, playing and listening to Jazz, whittling, and playing board and video games.
