About
Dr. Donaldson’s clinical and research interests are focused on adults with cystic fibrosis (CF). He co-directs the UNC Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program and leads a multidisciplinary team caring for adults with CF. His research has added to our understanding of the processes that regulate mucociliary clearance (MCC) in the lung and development of new therapies that address impaired MCC in CF and other airways diseases. His research interests also revolve around the development of novel imaging biomarkers, including MCC where he directs the CF Foundation funded MCC National Resource Center, and 19F-MRI ventilation imaging. Dr. Donaldson is co-principal investigator of the UNC Therapeutic Development Center, which conducts multicenter clinical trials in CF. Finally, he directs the NIDDK (P30) funded CF Clinical Translation Core, which provides research services to CF investigators at UNC and beyond.
