Join us on Sunday, October 20th from 12pm-4pm, for an afternoon of FUNdraising! We are raising money for our Patient Assistance Fund! This fund is used for airway clearance, transportation assistance, and most recently grocery assistance. We hope to raise awareness around food insecurity issues among those living with Cystic Fibrosis and support patients who have an increased caloric need but who are unable to afford meals in order to support that need.
Our Fall Fundraiser and Corn Hole Tournament is our annual fundraising event to raise money for an organization we love and love to work with. There will be plenty of beer from Steel String Brewery, food from Arepa Culture NC and Yee Haw Donuts, and LOTS of raffle prizes from local attractions! Additionally, local artists The Loose Lucies and The Lids will be playing! All proceeds and donated items from the fundraiser and cornhole tournament will go towards our Patient Assistance Fund to support our Grocery Assistance Program and Food Pantry.

ABOUT UNC’s Adult CF Center:
The UNC Adult CF Center was one of the first established adult centers and remains one of the largest in the nation. It has been a leader in training adult pulmonologists in the care of CF patients, and has been responsible for the training of many adult CF specialists across the country. It is the goal of the Adult CF Center to work with each patient to achieve the best possible health and quality of life.
ABOUT UNC’s Adult CF Center’s Patient Assistance Fund/Grocery Assistance Program:
Food insecurity is defined as not having reliable access to an adequate supply of affordable, nutritious food. North Carolina has the 8th highest rate of food insecurity in the nation, with 15.9% of households experiencing food insecurity. We have discovered an increased rate (20%) of food insecurity among our adult CF patients. For these patients, maintaining a sufficient supply of food is difficult due to the increased caloric need CF requires, the financial strain of healthcare and overall living expenses. Because poor nutrition status is correlated with a decline in lung function in patients with CF, the UNC Adult CF Center piloted a grocery assistance program in 2017 that is now fully implemented into our clinic. Every 6 months, 20 patients that have endorsed food insecurity are chosen at random to receive a $50 gift card monthly for 6 months. During this time, we work with the patient to identify other resources that will ensure ongoing, adequate access to food. The CF Center has been able to expand and sustain this program in 2018 via our annual fall fundraisers which is now in its third year. We hope to be able to continue this program to include other patients who have a similar need, if adequate resources can be achieved through this fundraising effort.
