It is with great sadness that we share the news that our friend and benefactor, Dr. Hugh A. “Chip” McAllister, Jr. MD ’66, passed away at his home in Houston, Texas this past Friday, June 15.
All of us have been and will continue to be inspired by Chip’s vision and passion to build the leading center for cardiovascular research in the world here at UNC. Following a visit to campus in April, Chip shared with us that he was very pleased with the direction of UNC McAllister Heart Institute, and the innovative research that is being conducted to advance both basic knowledge and the care of all those who suffer from cardiovascular disease.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 12th at 2 pm at the Chapel of the Cross on E Franklin St in Chapel Hill, and all MHI faculty and staff are invited.
