Edward M. Bahnson, Ph.D.Joan Taylor, Ph.D.Nobuyo Maeda, Ph.D.Congratulations to Edward M. Bahnson, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery, Department of Cell Biology & Physiology, Center for Nanotechnology in Drug Delivery, McAllister Heart Institute, Nobuyo N. Maeda, Ph.D., Robert H. Wagner Distinguished Professor & Joan M. Taylor, Ph.D., Professor and Vice Chair for Research, Department of Pathology, for publishing article on how engulfment and cell motility protein 1 potentiates diabetic cardiomyopathy via Rac-dependent and Rac-independent ROS production in the journal JCI Insight.  We are very proud of Drs. Bahnson & Taylor’s collaboration with Drs. Masao Kakoki and Nobuyo Maeda, as well as the late Dr. Oliver Smithies, on how ELMO1 promotes NOX-derived #ROS leading to exacerbation of diabetic cardiomyopathy in mice.

Masao Kakoki, Ph.D.It took a village with investigators across the UNC system, across different Departments and Institutes. Go #teamscience! Their lab specifically contributed with redox-related knowledge and experiments to quantify superoxide levels.
