Congratulations to Silvio Antoniak, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, and member of the UNC Blood Research Center, in collaboration with James C. Bonner, Ph.D. (NCSU), for the receipt of grant from NC TraCS.
Their $50k grant, titled “Role of PAR-2 in nanoparticle modulation of allergic lung disease”, was recently funded by NC TraCS and proposes a novel mechanism of exacerbation of AAD mediated by the adsorption of house dust mite (HDM) allergens, which can have proteolytic activity, to the surface of MWCNTs forming an ‘allergen corona’. Dr. Antoniak wants to thank the UNC Blood Research Center for providing of the matching funds for the UNC part of the study.
