The science blog Crosstalk has named incoming UNC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Chair Genevieve Neal-Perry, MD, PhD, to their list of 100 inspiring black scientists in America.
Dr. Neal-Perry is one of three UNC-affiliated scientists on the list. She will begin her leadership at UNC OB-GYN April 15, 2020, coming from the University of Washington where she is Director of the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, and Director of the Cancer and Reproduction Clinic at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
Dr. Antentor O. Hinton Jr., a Ford Foundation and Burroughs Wellcome Fund Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Iowa, created the list with the help of colleagues after student asked to learn more about black science professors and their accomplishments.
The list includes 75 established investigators and 25 scientists rising stars.
“Our hope is that this resource will have a significant and long-lasting effect on all members of the scientific community and continue to emphasize the need for diversity in the academy,” writes Hinton.
