The UNC Cardio-Obstetric Group attends Cardiac Problems in Pregnancy in Barcelona, Spain.

Members of the UNC cardio-obstetrics had a strong presence at the 10th International Congress on Cardiac Problems in Pregnancy (CPP 2026), held April 16–19, 2026, in Barcelona, Spain. The meeting brought together global experts to advance care at the intersection of cardiovascular disease and pregnancy.

The UNC group, bringing together Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists and cardiology colleagues, highlighted a range of research and clinical work through multiple trainee-led presentations.

Ashley Ruhashya, MS3, delivered two oral presentations focused on cardioversion in pregnancy and antihypertensive management among patients with pre-pregnancy medication exposure. Grace Tabor, MS4 and incoming UNC OB-GYN intern, presented on the use of furosemide following hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Residents also contributed to the program. Sweet Hope Mapatano, MD (PGY-3), presented a case involving pulmonary hypertension in pregnancy, while Emma Trawick, MD (PGY-7), shared outcomes from Cohort 1 of the ACHIEVE trial. From cardiology, Marykate Carrillo, MD (PGY-7), delivered an oral case presentation on Kawasaki disease in pregnancy.

The conference participation reflects UNC’s continued commitment to advancing research and clinical excellence in cardio-obstetrics, as well as supporting trainee scholarship on an international stage.
