Caring for women at every stage of their lives…

Drs. Andrea Knittel and Asha McClurg Published in the Obstetrics & Gynecology (Green Journal).

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Two faculty members in the UNC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology have been published in Obstetrics & Gynecology (the Green Journal), highlighting impactful research that advances women’s health care in North Carolina and around the world.

Andrea Knittel, MD, PhD, FACOG — director of the General Obstetrics and Gynecology Research Fellowship, associate professor in the Division of General Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Midwifery, and medical director for Incarcerated Women’s Health — authored the study, “Prevalence of Postpartum Permanent Contraception Requests and Fulfillment Among Individuals Experiencing Incarceration and Individuals in the Community.” The study represents the first large-scale analysis of permanent contraception requests in carceral settings, contributing critical insight into reproductive health care access for incarcerated populations. This marks Dr. Knittel’s second publication in the GREEN Journal. Dr. Asha McClurg portrait

Asha McClurg, MD, MSCR, assistant professor in the Division of Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, published “Reconciling the Literature on Sex-Based Disparities in Reimbursement,” which examines existing research on differences in physician reimbursement and works to clarify inconsistencies in the literature.

Together, these publications reflect UNC OB/GYN’s commitment to advancing research that informs equitable, evidence-based care for patients across diverse populations.

Obstetrics & Gynecology is the official publication of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG). Commonly known as the “Green Journal,” it is a leading peer-reviewed journal in the field, publishing research that shapes clinical practice and policy in obstetrics and gynecology.
