We are committed to ensuring that all of our patients receive the most up-to-date and evidence-based care. We want our patients to know that we support them and recognize that events happening outside of the hospital and clinics can have a profound impact on their health. We speak out when we see injustice.

UNC OB/GYN’s Pledge to Patients

Dear Patients,

Thank you for choosing UNC for your health care. This is an important decision for you and your family. We are honored to participate in your care.  In response, we make the following pledges:

Pledge to Anti-Discrimination

To our Black/African American, Latinx, Asian, Asian/Pacific Islander, Native American, transgender, gender non-conforming, lesbian, gay, queer, immigrant, low income and undocumented patients: we pledge to be leaders in eliminating health disparities. We acknowledge that discrimination may lead to worse health outcomes. We promise to address discrimination in our department.

Pledge to Addressing Providers’ Implicit Bias

We acknowledge that systemic bias enables racism, sexism, homophobia, xenophobia, and gender-based violence.  This can result in mistrust of the medical system. Healthcare providers may have implicit biases that affect your care. We pledge to confront our own implicit biases.  We pledge to be active listeners and partners in your health care. We will practice patient-centered decision making.

We are grateful for the privilege to take care of you. Thank you for entrusting us with your health.

Sincerely,

UNC Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology

Your experience matters to us.  Please share your positive and negative experiences with us. If you have concerns about discrimination, please inform our Clinic Manager or Patient Relations so we can address your concerns.
