UNC Midwives serve women throughout their lives from teen to mature women. We provide a wide range of services including first gynecological exams, obstetrical care, labor and delivery, contraception, perimenopause and women’s preventative health care.
We place importance on teaching and counseling and working together with women and their families in designing the best birth plan for pregnant women and the best health care plan for all women.
What makes midwifery care different? Find out on our About Us page.
We’re now also an official site for CenteringPregnancy® group prenatal care, offered at UNC OB-GYN, specifically through the UNC Midwives practice! We also invite you to attend one of our popular Meet the Midwives evenings, whether you’re just beginning to explore the idea of starting a family or finding the right midwifery care or choosing a hospital for delivery.
We have three convenient locations for midwifery gynecologic and prenatal care, and we’re happy to see you at one, or at all three, over the course of your care with us.

Kathy Higgins on National Midwifery Week 2017:
“As Director of the Midwifery Services, I want to acknowledge and applaud the outstanding dedication and commitment the midwives have for women’s healthcare. Our service has grown tremendously over the past 18 years. The depth of experience, knowledge and varying personalities of our nine midwives have coalesced into a strong service reflected by the many women who travel long distances and who return for care with us. UNC Midwives are honored that women choose us to participate in all of their healthcare, including one of the most important times of their life, the birth of their child. Happy Midwifery Week midwives, and birth on!”
