GENESIS (Guiding Emerging New Experts in STEM Interdisciplinary Sciences) was established in 2023 and is a BioSTAR Office initiative dedicated to supporting summer interns affiliated with the UNC School of Medicine.

Through tailored programming, professional development workshops, and community-building activities, GENESIS creates a supportive network that empowers interns to thrive during their time at Carolina.

The summer experience culminates in the GENESIS Summer Research Symposium, where students present their research through oral and poster presentations to the broader scientific community.

Over the past year, GENESIS has proudly provided programming for more than 15 summer internship programs within the UNC School of Medicine.
