Dr. Reade is a Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Anesthesiology at UNC-Chapel Hill and serves as an attending physician in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Since joining UNC in 2019, she has brought over a decade of experience as a pediatric intensivist, including ten years at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Reade earned her undergraduate degree from UNC-Chapel Hill, her MD and MPH from East Carolina University, and completed her pediatric critical care fellowship at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Passionate about preventing harm and improving outcomes for critically ill and technology-dependent children, she is a dedicated leader in patient safety and quality improvement.
She has been a true champion of CLABSI reduction, highlighted by her active role on the PICU’s Fine Lines team and her consistent participation in weekly central line rounds—where she actively looks at dressings, lines, and IV tubing and reviews charts to ensure each patient has the right line at the right time. Dr. Reade was instrumental in developing UNC HEEL (Holistic Evaluation of Every Line), a decision-making tool for central line placement, and she plans to continue this work as an IHQI scholar by developing an EMR-based tool to help clinicians identify and manage high-risk vascular access devices.
