The Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society (PIDS) has named Dr. Marielys Collazo-Roman, Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellow at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the recipient of its 2025 Stanley A. Plotkin Lectureship Award.
Dr. Collazo-Roman earned her medical degree from Ponce Health Sciences University and a Master of Science in Epidemiology and Biostatistics from the University of Puerto Rico. She completed her clinical training at St. Louis University/Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Her passion for pediatric infectious disease research is rooted in a strong commitment to addressing health inequities that affect children, some of the world’s most vulnerable populations. Her current research centers on dengue, a neglected tropical disease with significant pediatric morbidity. She investigates both the natural and vaccine-induced immune responses to dengue, an area of active inquiry and debate within the scientific and medical communities.
The Stanley A. Plotkin Lectureship Award is one of the highest honors presented by PIDS, recognizing individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the fields of vaccinology and pediatric infectious diseases. Named in honor of Dr. Stanley A. Plotkin, a pioneering figure in vaccine development, the award celebrates innovation, leadership, and dedication to improving child health worldwide. Dr. Collazo-Roman’s selection for this award highlights her exceptional promise as a physician-scientist and her unwavering commitment to advancing global health through research and advocacy.
