Dr. Donnelly is a Professor of Radiology and Pediatrics, holding appointments in both departments. He currently serves as Vice Chair of Quality and Safety in the Department of Pediatrics and as Chief Quality and Safety Officer for UNC Children’s. He will continue in both of these roles. As the Executive Vice Chair, he will collaborate with the Chair, Dr. Stephanie Davis, other Vice Chairs, Division Chiefs, and Administrative Directors to lead and support the department across all areas of its mission.
After beginning his faculty career at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital and rising to Radiologist-in-Chief, Dr. Donnelly has held increasingly broad leadership roles across multiple children’s hospitals. His professional career reflects deep engagement across all academic missions. He has been an NIH-funded investigator with more than 300 publications. He is the editor of the leading textbook in pediatric radiology and has received numerous national awards for educational achievement. Since his recruitment to UNC in 2017, Dr. Donnelly has played pivotal leadership roles within UNC Children’s and the Department of Pediatrics.
The EVC role was most recently held by Dr. Mike Steiner. A faculty member at UNC since 2006, Dr. Steiner served as EVC for the past two years and has recently assumed the position of Pediatrics Chair at the University of Oklahoma.
