Lauren Baumgardner, DO, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics has been named Director of the Pediatric Palliative Care Fellowship Track. Established in 2015, the ACGME-accredited Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship has trained 32 physicians during the past ten years through an innovative relationship with UNC Hospice and Transitions LifeCare to provide academic and community-based training with diverse patient populations. With support from the Ho/Chiang Foundation, the Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship started a pediatrics track in 2021. This track emphasizes flexibility to support each fellow’s learning goals as we seek to develop future hospice and palliative medicine leaders in clinical care, education, quality improvement and research.
Dr. Baumgardner joined the Pediatric Division of General Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine in 2023. Dr. Baumgardner completed her fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at UNC on the Pediatrics track, and previously completed Internal Medicine and Pediatrics residency at MetroHealth Cleveland, where she was also chief resident.
