Pediatric Palliative Care: Are We There Yet?

Elisabeth Dellon, MD, MPH

Dr. Dellon is an Associate Professor in Pediatrics. She is a pediatric pulmonologist and palliative care physician, and is the medical director of the Children’s Supportive Care Team, the pediatric palliative care program at the North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Dr. Dellon graduated from the University of Minnesota Medical School and trained in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at the Harvard Combined Medicine-Pediatrics Program in Boston. She then completed fellowship training in Pediatric Pulmonology at the University of North Carolina and received a MPH degree in Epidemiology from the UNC School of Public Health. Dr. Dellon has expertise in the care of children with respiratory disorders, pediatric lung transplant, and palliative care for children with any medical condition. Her research interests include palliative care for children and adults with cystic fibrosis, and treatment decision-making for people with chronic respiratory diseases.

 

Nicole Sartor, RN, MSN, C-PNP-PC

Nicole Sartor is a pediatric nurse practitioner who specializes in palliative care at the University of North Carolina Children’s Hospital. Nicole coordinates the Children’s Supportive Care Team. She joined the team in 2013 from Honolulu, Hawaii where she worked as the Director of Clinical operations at Hospice Hawaii. She completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Colby-Sawyer College in New London, New Hampshire and then earned her Master of Science in Nursing from Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York. She holds a national board certification with the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PCNB) as a pediatric nurse practitioner-primary care. Her clinical expertise is in hospice care and caring for the dying child and their family.
