The Muenzer MPS Research & Treatment Center participated in the
2026 WORLD Symposium held February 2–6, 2026, in San Diego, California, joining international leaders in lysosomal disease research and clinical care.
Center faculty and staff contributed multiple presentations and scientific posters addressing key topics across several MPS disorders:
-
Dr. Elizabeth Jalazo presented preliminary results from a Phase 1/2 first-in-human study in children with MPS IIIA (Sanfilippo syndrome), providing early clinical insights and emerging therapeutic data.
-
MPS I newborn screening poster, examining early identification strategies and diagnostic pathways. Members of the Muenzer MPS Center team are pictured alongside this work.
-
Dr. Kim Stephens presented findings from the MPS II Delphi survey, highlighting consensus-driven recommendations to inform clinical management.
-
Leigh Anne Weisenfeld, MSW, LCSW, co-authored a poster on outcomes of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) in individuals with MPS II (Hunter syndrome), contributing data on long-term outcomes and patient-centered considerations.
In addition, Dr. Muenzer participated in an Industry Expert Theater session, focusing on advancing early diagnosis of lysosomal disorders presenting as skeletal dysplasia and emphasizing the importance of timely recognition and referral.
WORLD Symposium serves as a leading international forum for scientific exchange in the lysosomal disease community. Participation in this meeting reflects the Center’s continued commitment to advancing research, improving clinical care, and supporting individuals and families affected by MPS.
