The Muenzer MPS Research & Treatment Center is proud to announce that Dr. Joseph Muenzer was honored with the Life for MPS Award at the 18th International MPS Network Symposium on Mucopolysaccharidoses and Related Lysosomal Diseases (IMPSN), held June 4–7, 2026, in Florence, Italy.
The Life for MPS Award recognizes individuals whose dedication, leadership, and contributions have had a lasting impact on the global MPS community. Dr. Muenzer was recognized for his decades of commitment to advancing research, improving clinical care, and advocating for individuals and families affected by mucopolysaccharidoses (MPS).
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Muenzer has played a pivotal role in the development of therapies for MPS disorders, helped lead groundbreaking clinical trials, and contributed to significant advances in diagnosis, treatment, and patient care. His work has helped transform the outlook for individuals living with MPS and has influenced standards of care around the world.
In addition to receiving the Life for MPS Award, Dr. Muenzer delivered the symposium keynote address, “Back 20 Years,
Looking to the Next 20: A Vision for the MPS Community.” During his presentation, he reflected on two decades of progress in MPS research and treatment while highlighting opportunities and challenges that lie ahead for the rare disease community.
The International MPS Symposium brings together researchers, healthcare professionals, industry partners, patient advocates, and families from across the globe to share knowledge and advance the understanding and treatment of MPS and related lysosomal disorders.
