About

Dr. Muhlebach is a physician scientist specializing in the field of Pediatric Pulmonology.

Dr. Muhlebach is a pediatric pulmonologist with research expertise in cystic fibrosis, as well as other lung diseases. As a clinician, she sees children with a variety of lung diseases including chronic lung disease of prematurity, wheezing and asthma, airway abnormalities, mucopolysaccharidoses and cystic fibrosis. She welcomes non-English speaking families too (Spanish, French, German). Her research is primarily in cystic fibrosis and focuses on:

  • Understanding the role of the microbiome (the diversity of bacteria) occurring in CF lungs as it relates to different ages and stages of CF lung disease.
  • Developing treatment algorithms for methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) in cystic fibrosis. This involves treatment of initial infection and understanding bacterial factors in chronic MRSA infection.
  • Evaluating adherence to infection control and evaluating interventions to reduce occurrence of antimicrobial resistance in people with cystic fibrosis.

Dr. Muhlebach also collaborates with basic scientists in the Marsico Lung Institute.
