About
Dr. Price is a physician scientist specializing in the field of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
Dr. Price’s research focuses on newborn intensive care, particularly as it relates to brain and lung development. Throughout his career, he has designed, coordinated, mentored and analyzed a variety of basic science and clinical research projects. He directed a multicenter project that created and validated an observation-based scoring system for the severity of chronic lung disease in premature infants.
He is the Fellowship Director for the Neonatal-Perinatal Fellowship Program and has mentored over 45 fellows over 20 years. He also regularly mentors trainees, residents and fellows as they design and complete research projects that focus on neonatal and perinatal health. Some of these have included projects that documented institutional variation in outcomes of late preterm newborns, highlighted transitions in care of infants with Trisomy 13 and 18, and examined the relationship of intraventricular hemorrhage to neurodevelopmental outcome in neonates.
Dr. Price is interested in enhancing care for mothers of NICU patients and is currently Co-PI on a CDC-funded grant to establish a nationwide collaboration that will formulate a set of Best Practices for Postpartum NICU Care, accompanied by collaboratively developed tools and strategies for exemplary care. This endeavor aims to enhance awareness and utilization of data-informed clinical care and public health resources, leading to improved implementation of approaches that enhance outcomes for postpartum individuals.
