Rebecca Bottom, MD, joined the Center in June 2019 as a staff psychiatrist at Wake STEP and an assistant professor in UNC Psychiatry. She works with a multi-disciplinary team to support the wellness of individuals with persistent mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
She also collaborates with the UNC Women’s Mood Disorders Program and NC Maternal Mental Health MATTERS Program to consult with North Carolina obstetricians who care for pregnant and postpartum women with psychiatric illnesses. Additionally, Bottom is involved in educating psychiatry residents as well as UNC medical students.
Prior to joining the Center, Bottom worked as an assistant professor of clinical psychiatry with the Indiana University School of Medicine. She worked in an outpatient clinic treating adults with mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and trauma-related disorders and collaborated with primary care physicians to help support the mental health of their patients.
Bottom is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. She received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Louisville and completed a psychiatry residency and served as chief resident at UNC School of Medicine. She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the North Carolina Psychiatric Association, Postpartum Support International, Marcé of North America, and the Marcé Society.
