Wellness on Wheels “Miss Penny” Bus

Although 2020 has been a challenging year, it has also presented a lot of opportunities to think differently. The Wellness on Wheels (WOW) mobile unit, like many other programs, had to adapt to the challenges of a global pandemic and creatively continue to provide essential testing services. We are pleased to announce that in partnership with Advance Community Health, a Wake County-based federally qualified Health center, the WOW mobile unit focused heavily on providing COVID-19 tests. Moreover, we continued to provide services to individuals regardless of insurance and ability to pay, and hold testing events staffed with Licensed Clinical Social Workers for any additional services or needs. The WOW Team covered locations throughout Wake Co including, but not limited to: Cary’s Dorcas location, Raleigh, Zebulon, Garner, Knightdale, Apex, Fuquay-Varina, Wake Forest, and Saint Augustine University. These included mostly Hispanic and African-American populations, along with the general public. Detailed Summary: July 2020 • Homeless outreach and LCSW on-site • 1 event specifically dedicated to Hispanic or Latino outreach • Took part in 23 Mass Testing Events in Wake County offering 1452 COVID-19 tests to the community August 2020 • Homeless outreach • Took part in 20 Mass Testing Events in Wake County offering 1430 COVID-19 tests to the community.
