Summary Statement:
Sylvia Saade is the director of OASIS (Outreach and Stabilization Intervention Services), an outpatient treatment program for early onset of psychosis and prodromal youth. OASIS received the 2007 Office of the Provost Engaged Scholarship Award presented by UNC and the Carolina Center for Public Service. Sylvia Saade’s responsibilities consist of clinical and administrative oversight of the program. She conducts individual, family therapy and multifamily groups. She has also been involved in providing education on the importance of early intervention, reduction of the duration of untreated psychosis and recognition of prodromal symptoms to various community agencies and schools. Since 2007, Sylvia Saade has been responsible for the “Family Therapy Series” instructing third year psychiatry residents in various family therapy interventions. She has been a field instructor and supervisor to students from various disciplines. Sylvia Saade has worked with Dr. David Penn on the GRIP (Graduated Recovery Intervention Program), an individual cognitive behavioral therapy program designed to facilitate functional recovery. Sylvia Saade is also involved in the NAPLS (North American Prodrome Longitudinal Study), a Family Research Project for prodromal youth and is a consultant to RAISE (Recovery After an Initial Schizophrenia Episode), a treatment intervention for first onset of psychosis in community mental health centers throughout the US.
