Why did you choose burn surgery?
I wanted something that was challenging and inspiring. Burn surgery gives me the opportunity to practice and grow in the areas of critical care, perioperative management, and long-term psychological care. I get to serve both pediatric and adult patients, and there are plenty of under-researched areas to delve into.
What is your philosophy of care or approach to patient care?
I try to approach each patient as if they were my own loved one. What would I want for someone personal to me – physically, medically, emotionally, spiritually? How can I best empathize with this person who might have had a very different background/experience than me? There must be a healthy balance between work and home, but when at work, the patient comes first.
