Dr. Bruce Cairns is the Chief of the Division of Burn Surgery, Director, North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center and the John Stackhouse Distinguished Professor of Surgery. Dr. Robert Maile is Associate Professor of Surgery in the Division of Burn Surgery.
In collaboration with the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy Eshelman Institute for Innovation Discovery, they received a Tier 2 Grant (6/1/2019-5/31/2021; $200,000) for their project entitled, “Nitric Oxide-releasing hyaluronic acid for wound healing stimulation.” They propose a new approach to conventional wound therapy by integrating antimicrobial activity and wound healing stimulation into a single, easy-to-apply therapeutic agent.
