The University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the N.C. Cancer Hospital are partnering with the Melanoma Research Foundation to host Melanoma Patient Day, an afternoon symposium offering information and support for patients with melanoma.

The event will be held May 6 from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education in Chapel Hill. The agenda includes updates on advances in melanoma treatment, financial toxicity, nutrition, inspirational talks from survivors, a mock tumor board, and information about getting involved with the UNC Lineberger’s Patient and Family Advisory Council.

“The goal of the symposium is two-fold,” said co-organizer Paula Landman, RN, MSN, nurse navigator in the UNC Skin Cancer and Melanoma Program. “One is educational, and the other, equally important goal, is to connect patients with each other. It doesn’t feel rare to us, but melanoma is actually a rare cancer.”
