Margot Halpin was born at Mount Sinai in New York City with a ventricular septal defect (VSD). Three months later the Halpin family moved to Chapel Hill and met with the Cardiology & Surgery teams at UNC Children’s Hospital NC Pediatric Heart Center to plan her care.

Researchers develop method for separating tissue types in tumor samples

A dense web of tissue can surround pancreatic cancer tumors, impeding treatment and sometimes acting as a barrier to the tumor’s spread. Researchers want to distinguish cancerous tissue from the surrounding connective tissue and cells known as stroma as well as from immune cells in the tumor’s environment in order to drive personalized treatment strategies.

Melina Kibbe, MD, Wins Spring 2019 Clinical Scientist Award

The Department of Veterans Affairs awarded Dr. Melina Kibbe, MD, Chair, and Professor at UNC Surgery, with the Biomedical Laboratory R&D Senior Clinical Scientist Award.
