Thane Blinman, MD, MBA is a Professor in the Division of Pediatric Surgery and Executive Vice Chair for Business and Innovation. He specializes in pediatric surgeries including: minimally invasive surgery, thoracic surgery (CPAM, CLE, bronchogenic cyst, myasthenia gravis, tracheomalacia, etc.), foregut disease (gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernia, achalasia, duplications, etc.), and biliary disease (biliary atresia, choledochal cyst, etc.) .  Learn more about his background and read his interview on the opportunities at UNC Surgery.

 

 

Robert Hanfland, MD Associate Professor of Cardiothoracic Surgery, is board certified in congenital cardiac surgery and thoracic surgery.  He brings his expertise in pediatric and adult congenital heart surgery to the UNC Children’s Heart Center and the Department of Surgery.  Most recently, Dr. Hanfland graduated from the Surgical Leadership Program at Harvard Medical School. Read more about his background and his interview here

 

 

 

 

 

Trevor Wood, MD, PharmD, FRCSC, FACS is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastrointestinal Surgery.  He specializes in colon and rectal surgery, inflammatory bowel disease, colorectal cancer, and diverticulitis.  Read more about his background and his interview on the collaborative approach to complex surgical care and more.

 

 

 

 

Kevin Calder, MD is the newest UNC Surgery faculty member.  As Associate Professor of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, he specializes in pediatric surgery, craniofacial surgery, cleft lip/palate surgery, hand and breast surgeries.  In addition to teaching at UNC and conducting clinical research, Dr. Calder is global leader in cleft care.  He has been to over 21 countries performing cleft surgeries in the past 10 years with Operation Smile. He served as the co-chair of their surgical council and played an integral role in educating surgeons in developing countries on how to perform cleft and cleft-related surgeries. He has participated in over 45 surgical missions and continues his international work. Read more about his background, and his interview.
