The study was designed to address the "chicken-or-egg" aspect which makes it difficult to determine if "polypharmacy" causes declining health, or if declining health necessitates use of multiple medications.

Approximately 90 researchers, clinicians, research staff and trainees gathered to discuss innovative ways to move research forward in areas including arthritis, allergy, and autoimmune diseases.

The study examined trends in knee osteoarthritis treatment from 2007 to 2015, and showed a drop in lifestyle management recommendations from both primary care providers and specialists.

An injection of the drug into the knee joints of people with OA increased cartilage thickness, compared to patients receiving placebo. However, pain and function did not improve.

Third-Year UNC Allergy/Immunology Fellow Jamie Waldron, MD, recently received the “Best Fellow Presentation” award at the Southeastern Allergy, Asthma and Immunology Society’s (SEAAIS) annual meeting.
