Our Passion for Research is Driven by Our Passion to Heal

Researchers and physicians often work directly with patients.
Leading researchers often work directly with patients.

The UNC Thurston Arthritis Research Center is home to nationally renowned scientists, physicians, and thought leaders in the fields of Rheumatology, Allergy and Immunology.

Because many of our researchers are also physicians who work directly with patients in our clinics, we bring real-world clinical care experience and insights to our research, and are able to provide the latest and most innovative science-backed therapies to our patients.

Our clinical care is also customized based on the needs of each patient, and delivered in a very personal and compassionate manner.

Advanced medicine combined with personalized care.

As the primary center of excellence for arthritis research and care in North Carolina, we provide the most comprehensive services in the state.  Similarly, our innovative, cutting-edge Allergy and Immunology research and care is nationally recognized.

While our scope is national, we have a special focus on serving the needs of patients throughout North Carolina, and are actively involved in conducting population-based research and outreach in dozens of communities within our state.

Ongoing Clinical Trials

As part of our core mission, we also conduct advanced clinical trials and observational studies to further investigate the causes – as well as search for new ways to treat – arthritis, allergies and autoimmune diseases.  Patients who have health conditions for which traditional medicines may have not been effective may wish to learn more about our clinical trials.
