His research program, Translational Research in Pain (TRiP), develops methods to measure pain associated with spontaneous disease in animals and seeks to understand the underlying neurobiology with the goal of improving our understanding of how to control pain in companion animals, and facilitating analgesic development in human medicine. He is director of the Comparative Pain Research and Education Centre (CPREC) and has authored over 270 peer-reviewed research papers and reviews.

In response to receiving the award, Dr. Lascelles emphasized the following: “While my name is associated with the award, the work it represents has always been a collective effort.
