TARC Research Seminar: Dr. Lauren Schnabel; “A new approach to infectious arthritis: understanding bacterial behavior in synovial fluid and developing a novel therapeutic”

February 18, 2022 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

“A new approach to infectious arthritis: understanding bacterial behavior in synovial fluid and developing a novel therapeutic”

Brief Description: This seminar will highlight our group’s work on how and why bacteria form free-floating biofilms in synovial fluid including our ex-vivo model system. The seminar will then focus on our development of a novel therapeutic, BIO-PLY, for the treatment of Staphylococcus aureus infectious arthritis and its demonstrated efficacy both ex-vivo and in-vivo in an equine model. Lastly, data from clinical cases of infectious arthritis treated with BIO-PLY at NC State CVM Equine Hospital will be presented.
