Prime Focus: Atmospheric chemistry, Ambient air pollutants, Combustion byproducts, Cardiopulmonary toxicology.

About: Dr. Yong Ho Kim’s research is multidisciplinary, spanning the fields of environmental science, engineering, chemistry, and toxicology, with expertise in evaluating environmental exposures to complex atmospheric chemical mixtures and biological response profiles in in vitro/in vivo lung models. Specifically, his research interests are primarily related to inhaled particle-lung cell interactions: 1) how inhalation of certain chemicals either singly or as a mixture of pollutants leads to lung toxicity, 2) how that toxicity is influenced by physico-chemical characteristics of the pollutants, atmospheric conditions, exposure duration, and pollutant sources, and 3) what can be done to prevent adverse health outcomes. His research findings could be used to perform a comprehensive air pollutant risk assessment and fill the current knowledge gaps between air pollution exposures and public safety education.
