Welcome to the UNC Wilderness Medicine Program, a dynamic initiative dedicated to advancing high-quality wilderness, rural, and austere medicine training and support across North Carolina. Our mission is to keep active people operating at peak performance by preventing and treating injuries and implementing innovative research in the most challenging environments. Our multidisciplinary team of health care professionals are united by a shared passion for delivering care in extreme and resource-limited settings, and by a deep commitment to strengthening health resilience for all communities, especially those in underserved and remote areas.

Whether you’re an outdoor athlete, adventurer, or enthusiast, our program is here to provide comprehensive wilderness medicine education, patient care, and support. Our program also aims to support and empower local and state organizations and first responders with the skills needed to thrive in resource-limited and unpredictable environments.
