As colleagues gather in Washington this spring, attendees moving from session to session will encounter a consistent presence from UNC Urology. Their participation across the 2026 AUA Annual Meeting reflects the ongoing work taking place within our department – work that spans clinical care, research, and education and connects UNC Urology to the broader national community of physicians and scientists advancing the field.

In February 2026, the Department of Urology proudly hosted the inaugural “UNC Urology Culley C. Carson III, MD Visiting Professorship in Men’s Health,” a new academic tradition created to honor the legacy of one of the department’s most influential leaders while bringing distinguished experts in men’s health to Chapel Hill.

Too many men don’t have a family physician and don’t get regular checkups, says Culley Carson, MD. This problem is especially bad among younger men. Between ages 18 and 30, healthy men should see a doctor every two to three years. Men 30 and older should go annually.
