July 2012 – Two department graduate students, Jim Dunleavey and Klara Klein, have been accepted into UNC’s Integrative Vascular Biology (IVB) Training Program.

The program provides students with financial support and additional training in the field of vascular biology. Trainees are required to have a secondary faculty mentor whose vascular biology research differs from that of student’s primary mentor, to facilitate collaboration and expose the student to diverse approaches in the study of vascular disease. These secondary mentors may be clinical faculty and individuals at UNC, or at other universities or institutes who maintain active laboratories relevant to the student’s area of research.

Additional training and collaboration opportunities include group meetings, vascular biology seminars, and the annual Vascular Biology Research Forum.

Trainees are selected among graduate students from multiple departments and curricula at UNC-Chapel Hill during the spring semester of their first or second year. The training grant provides funding support for up to three years, upon review of the student’s research progress and program participation.

Jim Dunleavey is in his third year of graduate study and joined the lab of Drew Dudley. Klara Klein is in the MD/PhD Program and is in her second year of graduate study in Kathleen Caron’s lab.
