The 2013 Larry D. Keith Area Health Professions Recruitment Fair will be sponsored by the University of North Carolina Schools of Medicine and Dentistry and Duke University School of Medicine. The local hosts will also include the NC AHEC Programs and the Carolina Higher Education Opportunity Programs (CHEOP). Students and advisers will be invited from various institutions. Based on past seminars, the audience will represent 15-20 states and 30-40 health professional colleges and universities.
The purpose of the recruitment fair is to enable a group of summer program participants to expand their horizons on the professional school opportunities available to them, to enrich their understanding of the preprofessional planning process, and to meet personally with important professional school representatives. Approximately 250 minority and/or disadvantaged students -- mostly college juniors, seniors, and post-graduates -- will attend. These students attending the fair will come from the following summer programs:

Schedule
The Recruitment Fair begins at 12pm on Friday afternoon. The agenda that afternoon will include an introduction of the professional school representatives, as well as the summer program participants. Representatives will be able to participate on a panel discussing their program/school and will be asked to give an overview of their programs as well as discuss topics such as:
- The admissions process
- Pre-professional planning
- Alternative health career pathways and options
- Financial aid
- Support systems
- The gap year
- Life in professional/graduate school
These sessions will conclude at 5pm Friday. Our keynote speaker will speak at dinner which begins at 6pm, and the annual talent show showcasing our students' talents from the various programs will start after dinner.
Breakfast will be served at 7am on Saturday morning followed by mock interviews at 8:30am. We will end the day with the two-hour recruitment fair from 10am - 12pm.
Participation
Panels: For those unfamiliar with our past conference, we invite our visitors to participate actively as members of the panels. The response form includes a space to indicate if you are willing to serve as a resource person. We will make every effort to assign you to a panel if you so desire. Please see list of discussion topics above.
Mock interview: Saturday morning will begin with a mock interview. We will need volunteers to serve on the mock admissions committee. Roles will be assigned prior to the session. You may also indicate your willingness to serve on this panel by checking the appropriate topic on the response form. Roles will be assigned prior to the session.
Recruitment Fair: Two hours on Saturday morning is designated for the recruitment fair. During this time, students will be allowed to consult with the school representative(s) of their choice. The formal program will end at 10:15 AM and the recruitment fair will begin soon after.
Registration
We certainly hope that you or your representative will be able to attend. Please let us know your tentative plans by completing the response questionnaire no later than May 15, 2013. - Full table with two seats for the recruitment fair
- Dinner on Friday, and breakfast on Saturday for up to two representatives
- Full or half page ad space in the booklet

If you would like to include a full or half page ad, please send an attachment to medprogramunc@gmail.com, and specify if it is for a full or half page. There is no cost as it is included in the registration fee. Please send your ad by Monday, June 3rd.
Shipping Information
If you need to ship your recruitment material ahead of time, please send to the address provided below. Please make sure your materials arrive no earlier than Wednesday, June 26, 2013.
Accommodations
Hotel: We have reserved a block of rooms at the Courtyard by Marriott (courtyardchapelhill.com). The hotel is walking distance to the Friday Center as well as several local dining options.
The rooms reserved have been discounted for our group from $139.00 down to $115.00 per night (rates are available until Wednesday, May 15). Please note, this is the only hotel we have an exclusive agreement with, and the only one within walking distance of the Friday Center. IF you are unable to reserve a room at the Marriott, you will have to arrange transportation for yourself to and from your respective hotel to the Friday Center. We are no longer able to provide shuttle transportation.
