Accommodations at the School of Medicine

The School of Medicine works with the Department of Disability Services (DDS) and the Academic Success Program for Students with LD/ADHD (ASP) in order to porvide appropriate classroom and testing accommodations.  To obtain accommodations, documentation of disability must be submitted to DDS.  See the DDS website for details regarding documentation requirements.  DDS will review documentation and contact you regarding your request for accommodations and the SOM liaison, Deborah Ingersoll, if accommodations have been approved.  Students are invited to contact Deborah Ingersoll to discuss confidentially self identification at the School of Medicine, the process for requesting and implementing accommodations, and any other accommodation or disability questions or concerns.

The Department of Disability Services provides services and reasonable accommodations to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate/professional students with disabilities. Their mission is to provide students with disabilities equal access to the services, programs and activities of the University so that they may, as independently as possible, meet the demands of University life.

Academic Success Program for Students with LD/ADHD

Academic Success Program for Students with LD/ADHD (ASP-LD/ADHD), formerly Learning Disabilities Services (LDS) provides accommodations and services for students with LD/ADHD.  Students who would like to request accommodation based on LD or ADHD should submit their documentation to the Department of Disabilities Services. Documentation guidelines have been revised and are posted on the Department of Disabilities website. See http://disabilityservices.unc.edu/eligibility/document-guidelines.html for detailed information about the guidelines and submission procedures, and visit their website for general questions and information, or you can call them at 919-962-8300.  Students who are eligiable for ASP-LD/ADHD services work with the staff who determine and recommend specific accommodations and services.

Students who belive that they may have an undiagnosed LD or ADHD are welcome to contact ASP-LD/HD  for more information. If you are considering being tested, it is recommended that you provide the diagnostician with these documentation requirements.
