Georgette Dent 's headshot
From 1998 to 2022, Dr. Dent served as Associate Dean for Student Affairs at the UNC SOM.

Dr. Dent has devoted much of her career to the professional development of medical students. Her aim has been to support students in reaching their potential and in using their unique and individual talents to have a positive impact on the lives of their future patients and on health care in general.

This focus led to her serve on national committees such as the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), the AAMC Careers in Medicine (CiM) Advisory Committee, the Liaison Committee for Medical Education (LCME), and the American Society of Hematology (ASH) Committee for Promoting Diversity.

As Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Dr. Dent was instrumental in facilitating the growth and development of the UNC SOM’s branch campuses, dual degree programs, international programs, Advisory College program, and the SOM/CAPS embedded counselor program.

Dr. Dent has been the recipient of several awards including the John Foust Medical Alumni Distinguished Teaching Professorship, the AAMC Southern Group on Student Affairs Bob Sabalis Award, the UNC SOM Academy of Educator’s Lifetime Achievement Award in Medical Education, and the Medical Alumni Distinguished Faculty Award.

Since June of 2022, Dr. Dent has served as a faculty member in the UNC Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine where she enjoys working with pathology trainees. In addition, she keeps a hand in the SOM through her work as a Medical Education & Student Professional Development Coach, helping students navigate their way through medical school and beyond.
