TelehealtH based study in oldeR adults strIVing to lose weIght and eNhance functioninG
We’re recruiting research study volunteers to help us understand safe and healthy weight loss.
Our team’s previous research has shown that technology use can help older adults lose weight and improve physical function while decreasing the burden of in-person visits. This study’s overarching goal is improving the health and well-being of older adults. Specifically, we want to promote safe weight loss, improve physical function, and improve overall quality of life.
About the study
All participants will receive a video-conferencing (telemedicine) delivered program. Participants will be randomly selected to receive either:
Nutrition counseling and group exercise with a registered dietitian and physical therapist
OR
A health coaching programthat focuses on changing habits and behaviors
Total participation in this study is 52 weeks:
Five in-person measurement visits
Multiple telehealth home-based group
Individual video-conferencing sessions
Participants will receive a tablet and FitBit to use during the duration of the study. Each participant will also receive a total of $285 in gift cards over the course of the study.

Inclusion Criteria
65 to 85 years old
Living independently
Body Mass Index > 30kg/m²
≥ 2 chronic medical conditions
Pass screening criteria
Medical clearance by PCP
Willing to participate with other commitments
If you have any of the following, you are likely ineligible to participate
Cognitive Impairment or Dementia
History of any weight loss surgery
COVID-19 infection in past month
Major psychiatric disorders that might interfere with study participation
Life-threatening illness
Anti-obesity medication
Elective surgery in next 12 months of enrollment
Current or past 12 month participation in another weight loss study
