In a recent North Carolina Medical Journal article Entitled Programs and Policies to Prevent Falls in North Carolina, Ellen Schneider and her co-authors state, “Falls are not a normal part of aging.” In addition, the article says that among older adults, falls are the leading cause of both nonfatal and fatal injuries. However, the article also says that most falls are preventable. The article then lists organizations which focus on falls prevention like Healthy Aging NC and the North Carolina Falls Prevention Coalition (NCFPC).

Ellen Schneider, MBA, (Associate Director of Policy and Strategic Alliances for the UNC Center for Aging and Health) authored the article along with Ellen Bailey, MA, MPH, Ingrid Bou-Saada, MA, MPH. Read the full journal article.
