UNC Anesthesiology congratulates Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Assistant Residency Program Director and OB Anesthesia Fellowship Director Benjamin Cobb, MD, on his selection as a Voluntary Reviewer for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) Voluntary Review of Quality of Care (VRQC) program. For three+ decades, the VRQC program has conducted comprehensive site visits at large and small obstetric and gynecologic care facilities, offering synthesized reviews and systemwide analyses to help identify issues underlying adverse events, how to improve teamwork and trust, and how to enhance patient-centered care and outcomes.

As a Voluntary Reviewer, Dr. Cobb will join VRQC program multidisciplinary teams that conduct site evaluations supported by evidence-based ACOG guidelines. He plays a vital role in helping teams review preliminary data packets shared by obstetric and gynecologic care facilities prior to site visits. Following four-day facility site visits, his OB anesthesia practice expertise invaluably contributes to developing final VRQC program reports containing findings and actionable recommendations aimed at assisting reviewed facilities with carrying out quality improvement efforts in OB anesthesia practice and patient care.
