UNC Anesthesiology is thrilled to recognize Professor of Anesthesiology and Pediatrics and UNC Medical Center Pediatric Sedation Services Medical Director Janey Phelps, MD, for being named a North Carolina Children’s Hospital Carolina Cares Award Physician Leader.
This fall, Dr. Phelps was recognized for going above and beyond to help a domestic violence survivor and her family fully furnish a new apartment after the family had lived 10 months in a shelter. After offering financial support to the family, Dr. Phelps secured a home and raised over $1,000 to support their needs. She also purchased beds, a washer/dryer and a couch and collected donated furniture.
North Carolina Children’s Hospital Director of Children’s Perioperative Services Monica Mohe, MSN RN, NE-BC, stated: “In recognition of her compassion and generosity, I submitted Dr. Phelps’ name for the Carolina Care Awards, and I’m thrilled to share that she was selected as the Physician Leader award recipient for outpatient services.
